Cardinal win 25-20, 25-19, 25-20 over Fighting Irish
Notre Dame drops to 5-2 with first loss outside Purcell Pavilion
No. 6 Notre Dame volleyball dropped its first match outside of the friendly confines of Purcell Pavilion this season, falling 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-20) to No. 2 Stanford on Friday night in Maples Pavilion.
The Fighting Irish (5-2) were led by sophomore outside hitter Avery Acker, who tallied a team-high 11 kills. Junior outside hitter Sydney Bent added nine kills, while sophomore middle blocker Zoe Nunez had seven kills and a team-high four blocks.
Stanford (6-1) was led by senior outside hitter Kathryn Plummer, who had a match-high 15 kills. Junior outside hitter Kendall Kipp added 12 kills, while junior middle blocker Tami Alade had 11 kills.
The Cardinal hit .321 as a team, while Notre Dame hit .196. Stanford also had a 9-4 edge in blocks.
The Fighting Irish will look to bounce back on Sunday when they travel to Berkeley, California, to take on No. 13 California.
